Need to find the name of a movie! A dragon movie!?

I don't remember a lot of the movie, I was a good bit younger when I saw it. A boy (or young man) talks to a dragon throughout the movie. I think the dragon was a model, and most of the talk seems like the boy's imagination. It was set in modern times. I can't remember much more than that. Please help, I really liked the movie and not finding the title is driving me nuts!
I checked all the movies given as possibilities, but no go. Thank you all for the answers so far though!

The usual suspect on that one, if you're talking about a live action film, is Pete's Dragon. It's an old Disney film featuring an animated dragon that appears to Pete, but not to anyone else, so no one believes the dragon is real.

If you're thinking of a cartoon, it may be Puff the Magic Dragon. Same basic story about a dragon befriending a boy. In this case, he's there to help the boy learn to open up to other people.

One other notable one, though I doubt it's the one you're looking for, is Flight of Dragons, which really centers around a young scientist who gets transported to a land of magic, and uses rational thought to beat the bad guys. Don't let that fool you, it's still a fun movie.

Addendum:

There are no end of boy and dragon movies out there, but you know, something about the model part tripped in my head. The Neverending Story is set in modern times, largely takes place inside the main character's imagination, and the dragon in that one is a giant mechanical model. Even if that isn't the movie you're looking for, it's a good one.
