What type of forests are better for timber production?

I need help with a woodwork assignment and one of the questions are obviously "What type of forests are better for timber production?" Old Growth Forests or Plantation Forests? What wood do they use?

I didn't do much research on this yet but bamboo and eucalyptus plantations seems to be the best. eucalyptus has a value and grows very quickly, while bamboo is the fastest growing plant. it's actually a grass, right?

old growth forests need hundreds of years to grow. plantations are more quicker and if you plant rubber tree or fruits and nuts, it can give even more income to people instead of just waiting for trees to grow. rubber is a very important material in the world, right next to water, oil and steel.

now with modern technology you can use plywood and engineered wood. for engineered wood you can use any type of wood, just shred it into pieces, press it into any shape and you have a product. sounds like this with bamboo will be the next green thing everyone will jump on.
